Case Study: Qalipu Development Corporation, Indigenous Forestry Opportunity Study

Objective

Pedal & Shift recently completed an Indigenous Forestry Opportunity Study for Qalipu Development Corporation (QDC), identifying viable opportunities in NL’s forestry sector that align with QDC’s goals and respect Indigenous values. The study helps support long-term Indigenous economic development that respects cultural and environmental considerations.

Approach

Pedal & Shift implemented a multi-phase research and analysis framework combining market analysis with stakeholder engagement. Using tools like PESTLE Analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, Ansoff Matrix, and Systems Mapping, we reviewed market trends, industry dynamics, and growth potential. We consulted 20+ key stakeholders—including community, industry, academia, and government—to identify challenges, partnership opportunities, and align strategy with community needs. We also analyzed the QFN business directory to identify potential contributions to and benefits from the forestry value chain.

Outcomes

  • Developed a stakeholder engagement plan to ensure meaningful community involvement and long-term support for forestry sector initiatives.

  • Delivered a detailed research report including market analysis, strategic insights, and future-focused commercial opportunities.

  • Provided QDC with actionable recommendations on business ventures, partnerships, and investment options.
